Google is launching its own AI chatbot named Bard in response to the success of ChatGPT

Google is launching its own AI chatbot named Bard in response to the success of ChatGPT, which is backed by Microsoft. Bard will be added to the Google search engine to allow complex queries to be distilled into answers.

Bard is powered by a large language model called LaMDA and will be made available to the public in the coming weeks. LaMDA and the technology behind ChatGPT are types of neural networks that are trained by being fed vast amounts of text from the internet.

Google’s chief executive, Sundar Pichai, emphasized Bard’s ability to provide up-to-date information based on the web. Google will make the technology behind LaMDA available to developers, creators, and businesses to build apps powered by Google’s AI.

A Google engineer’s claims that LaMDA was “sentient” were deemed “wholly unfounded” by Google and the engineer was fired.
